The son of a large-animal-veterinarian and an attorney, his upbringing in rural northwest Illinois included agricultural work and small-town community involvement that provided a firsthand appreciation of the needs and goals of business owners, professionals, and families. After attending college in Michigan and interning at a law firm in his hometown after graduating, he moved to Iowa to attend the University of Iowa College of Law.

Prior to joining the firm, Austin was a partner at the Cedar Rapids law firm of Klinger, Robinson & Ford, LLP.  In March of 2026, Austin joined AKK as partner, and his practice focuses on real estate, probate, estate planning and business entities.
